The estimated meter of Abstand is an acknowledgement of the influence exerted by Marcel Duchamp’s 3 stoppages étalon on our notions of the immutability of accepted standards. The 3 stoppages étalon skillfully exposed the fluidity of established facts and the nature of our assumptions about the procedural establishment of knowledge.
