William Forsythe's video work Tri Tempi (2023) is an illustration of the principle informing his concept of Choreographic Objects.
The work operates from the objective of manually sustaining a maximum acceleration of three flexible objects, each with significantly different material properties. Although the properties of the materials ultimately defeat the objective, the physical strategies elicited by the materials upon the body result in a suite of distinct, practical postures and gestures: an unconscious choreography.
